Why does it have to be pandering? Isn't it possible that his interpretation of his characters are different than your own?

And who would he be pandering to? I know Hannigrahm is popular on Tumblr, but do you think the average viewer who watches the show ships them?

They don't have to ship it in terms of a romantic relationship - probably lots of people who watch the show want Hannibal to care about Will in a friendship capacity.

I don't think he'd misrepresent the crux of his show like that.

Not to mention, it's not like the interviewer asked him "Does Hannibal genuinely care about Will?" Fuller could have done the interview without saying anything either way.
