You're not alone. There's been some Garrus backlash going on lately. I know a couple months ago, there was stuff going on about it on the kink meme (also some Kaidan backlash).

The fandom just never gets the character right or go into his flaws. He's turned into a the Gary Stu perfect husbando most of the time. And there is that stupid expection that he and FemShep are suppose to be together.

Just curious, why was there backlash? Was it a shipping war between Shep/Garrus and Shep/Kaidan fans or something?

Sounds kind of pointless, but most backlash does.

Shakarians and Shenkos are constantly at each others' throats. I follow both pairings - I like both pairings - and most of the time its Shakarians tagging their hate, Shenkos get upset and write aggressive posts about how fucked the fandom is, Shakarians respond, back and forth back and forth. Which, since a vast majority of the fandom is Shakarians, and a lot of them are inexperienced with online etiquette (never tag your fucking hate what is wrong with you) they (usually) start it by accident. Of course some Shenkos are the first to sling shit, but in my experience watching ME fandom on Tumblr it's usually the other way around

Urg, I'm sort of glad I got out of the ME fandom while I did. I see ME stuff on my dash and reblog it, and occasionally I'll go looking for something specific, but mostly I don't take part in it anymore. I have seen a few Shakarians tag their hate and start drama, but otherwise I've been pretty lucky.

I'm sure both groups have their assholes though, like all groups do. It would be nice if everyone could get along, but alas, it isn't meant to be.

... Yeah, between this and everything since ME3, I'm kinda glad I got out of the fandom when I did.

Sad to see there's crap between the Shakarians and Shenkos... I remember when the two groups got along fairly well (or at least, tolerated one another) and then ME2 happened. Sigh.
