The very reasons it has problems portraying that is BECAUSE it's automatically taken for something it's not. Usually by truly insane people, but w/e. That is not a judgement call on what it's being taken FOR, it's just a stark, staring fact, that THIS IS NOT WHAT THAT IS. Slash perverts "fans" have unfortunately taken over the world, however.

lol you must live in a very different world than the rest of us then

or maybe we live in the same one after all, given that you felt the need to get in a jab at a population already desperate for a bone to be thrown. Talk about kicking someone when they're down.

Slash fans might get excited by a hug between two guys they ship, but I don't think that because of their actions men have stopped hugging on TV. I think that is a Western thing. I mean, people slash KPOP and JPOP and that doesn't stop those guys from hugging.

In the West men are taught to hide their emotions more around each other. It's cultural, not fandom related.

Taking Supernatural as an example - the Destiel fans were batshit loooong before any hugging went on.

And has been pointed out upthread, A) Encouraging - or not - the shippers shouldn't define every interaction between characters and B) If platonic physical affection between males were more mainstream, every hug wouldn't be a Big Damn Deal.

I'm sorry, but why are you singling out the Destiel fans? We're talking about the show where shippers confuse brotherly hugs with romantic hugs. I think we can say "shippers in Spn were batshit long before any hugging went on", and be more honest rather than just singling out one group of fans.

No offense intended, I read the fic myself. But there were Sam/Dean hugs earlier in the series, before the fandom got huge, so the comparison didn't feel as apt. Whereas Castiel's recent HUG EVERYBODY phase didn't come until the Destiel heyday slipped a bit.

But yes, SN shippers and fans in general are batshit and proud of it :)

you're trolling, right
