There's a long and documented evidence trail of CC being a plagiarist and a bully back when she was a BNF in Harry Potter fandom. And, yeah, it's a long time ago and people deserve second chances, and so on, but I think a lot of people resent that she got a book contract, because while she's a decent writer (despite her stupid overuse of pop culture references in her fanfic, regardless of whether or not it was in character), she broke a lot of the assumed ethical standards in fandom.

That said, what I find hardest to forgive is her popularisation of the leather pants! Draco trope.

She continued her bullying well after her HP days - and I think a second chance always needs to include acknowledgements of wrongs done and an apology, and either are still forthcoming from her.

True enough. I haven't been following what happened to her after she left the fandom, other than having heard about the book contract.
