It is odd to see so many people say this version is their favourite. I never liked the movie (or the story, as it was - at the time - one of the JA books I hadn't read). I like the 2008 version.

I liked this version but I prefer the 2008 version.

I prefer the 2008 version too. For one thing, you get a much better feeling of how precarious the Dashwood women's existence is, how utterly dependent they are on others to survive. Their cottage is a chilly place, not the huge house full of sunbeams you see in the 2005 adaptation.

That said, I did enjoy the 2005 version as well. And Alan Rickman was sex in a waistcoat!

I liked both, for varying reasons. Emma Thompson is just awesome in everything she does, and Alan Rickman was fantastic in this, as was Kate Winslet.

In the 2008 version, the actors who play Willoughby and Marianne weren't quite as good, IMO. Hattie Morahan (who played Eleanor) was amazing, however and Dan Stevens made a much better Edward.
