Helena's a pretty great character.

A friend of mine pointed out that she is what River Song SHOULD be if Moffat was worth his salt as a writer. By which I mean, both characters were taken at a young age and raised by religious fanatics and they were given a mission to kill. But ofc, River is relatively undamaged while Helena is (much more believably) a mess.

I'm firmly of the opinion that she's experiencing the onset of a severe mental disorder, probably schizophrenia. And I mean this seriously, not as a joke or anything. She's the right age for it, and a lot of what I've been hearing seems to support my theory.

I hope not. It doesn't sound like, if she is, she's getting anything but ridicule in the media instead of any kind of help or support.

I'm not entirely convinced that it's schizophrenia necessarily. But she is clearly unwell, and the way she's treated for being unwell is fucking disgusting.

Isn't schizophrenia more likely to show up later in women, though? Like, around menopause? (Then again, even the men in my family who have it had it diagnosed pretty late, so maybe not.) But even though I haven't heard much about Amanda Bynes, what I have heard does sound serious and scary. It could even be drug-induced schizophrenia, which is rare, but does happen. I hope she gets the help she needs, regardless of what's wrong.

According to Schizophrenia.com (http://www.schizophrenia.com/szfacts.htm#), the usual age of onset for women is around 25.

No, it's more likely to show up in a woman in her mid twenties (27 is the most prominent age, but more severe cases show up at an earlier age). A person can experience schizophrenic symptoms around 40 for the first time, but it's less likely.

And her symptoms are pointing to schizophrenia, which makes people's reactions by turning her into something to laugh at really sickening. :/

I've wondered about that myself. looking at her twitter feed doesn't make me laugh; it makes me really nervous and scared for her. because I'm pretty sure all of this started happening out of nowhere. just a few years ago (whenever easy a came out) she seemed fine. I hope she gets whatever help she needs.

Yep, I agree with you. I've had to study schizophrenia in several classes and my aunt is schizophrenic. My aunt was diagnosed right around Amanda Bynes' age too. :/

Am I the only one uncomfortable with people casually making jokes about Amanda Bynes? I don't think she's joking around. There's something seriously wrong with her. In fact, from the reports I've seen about her behavior, she's showing signs of schizophrenia, which is no laughing matter.

What jokes are you talking about? I don't think things like "if you are ugly then you are nothing to me" really counts as jokes anyway. And I remember her Twitter back in the days when she was @Chicky, it also made no sense what so ever.

I do think she's very unwell though, and the way she's treated is not okay.
