Sex scene question!

So I'm writing a 50SoG parody/do-over thing with my (m/m) OTP, and I'm realizing, even if I follow the pace of the original, the sex scene just comes out of fucking nowhere (forgive the pun). They hardly know each other!

I remember seeing a complaint years ago about how so many slash fics use kissing/sex as a confession or skip to the sex right after the confession. I mean, I read a lot of BFFs-turned-lovers fic, so the skip-to-the-sex part doesn't bother me there, but in a fic where they just met and hardly know each other? Give me some build-up!

Now I wanna know, what're your guys' preferences, narratively speaking?

I don't care either way in fiction. But you realize that in real life, plenty of people have sex when they hardly know each other, right? This really does happen all the time. I don't see why some people in fandom get so bent out of shape about it in fiction.

Oh, definitely! I didn't mean to imply that it doesn't - and if it works for the characters or the situation, I'm totally all for it. But sometimes it just doesn't work, y'know? I mean, I'm writing this, and I get through the sex scene, and all the sudden I have no idea what I'm doing with these guys because it's just so awkward - the way each of them would normally behave after sex doesn't really work because there's not enough to their relationship to warrant them behaving as they normally would. It took me a while to realize that the problem wasn't the after-sex scene, but the fact that there was a sex scene there at all. It worked for one of them, but not really for the other, and it sort of ruined the whole narrative.

I just find it ironic that I'm writing what amounts to an erotica novel and I'm bitching about the sex coming out of nowhere! XD

It depends on what I'm looking for. If I'm specifically reading for the sex scenes and it is a shorter fic, I prefer as little plot as possible. If we are talking about a longer, plotty fic then I prefer build-up to the sex scenes and for the scenes to believably flow from the plot.

I can't stand sex that comes out of nowhere. If the characters barely know each other when they have sex, then the entirety of their acquaintance should pretty much be sexual tension. Is my preference.
