The Conspiracy Theories Thread!

[personal profile] lynx 2013-07-06 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Whether you wholeheartedly believe in them or are just amused by them conspiracy theories are sure entertaining! Why don't we all post some of our favorites?

- Right now I've spent a week obsessed by all things Knigth Templar (though I don't believe in them, I love them >>)

- When I was 15 and completely guillible, I fell sink and hook for the "Paul Is Dead" theory.

- I was going around that site of the "Vigilant Citizen" for more on the Illuminati conspiracy, and got creeped out. Seriously, creepypastas do nothing for me but there's some scary shit there. No, still don't believe it, but it's a kind of "interesting fiction" that makes me uncomfortable.

If you're interested in the Knights Templar, you might like The Accursed Kings series!

They're mostly a pretext though, but if you like stories about royalty and backstabbing...

The Ancient Astronaut theory. It's infuriating and entertaining at the same time. The series they have on the We no longer give a fuck about actual History channel is like one long train wreck I can't stop watching.

Which one is the "Ancient Astronaut"? :o There are many CTs about old space travelers seeding life (or intelligence!) on Earth.

(Best damn name ever for History Channel. Everything there is ovnis, Nazis and 9/11)

My first experience with it was Erich Von Daniken's theory that aliens built the Egyptian pyramids.

I think It covers pretty much all of them, and they keep adding to it. Like Leonardo Da Vinci could not possibly have been as brilliant as he was on his own, there had to be some outside influence, and it had to be aliens. They had an entire show on that.

That's my favorite, too. So entertaining. And my friends and I have just taken to calling it the Conspiracy Theory Channel since that's pretty much all that's on there anymore.

Here's one I heard from a drunken woman shouting at people in the streets: the Catholic Church deliberately sabotages public transport because travelling enlightens people.

Also, Kennedy's assassination was a staged suicide. :) I don't quite believe it, but I heard someone make a very good case for it.

She could be right about the enlightening, I'm always writing in the metro X'DD But oh wow. And why the Catholic Church...

I've heard about Kennedy's too :O

I listen to Coast 2 Coast am sometimes, and wow. If you want crazy conspiracy theories, that's the best place to go.

My favorite is the alien visitor conspiracy, where people actually believe Roswell was an alien crash. (Instead of a few other incidents+Project Mogul+false memories+out right lies) and the government has been keeping it a secret for over 50 years. They're not that great with keeping things secret for long.

Oh. There's also a conspiracy that centers around the discount cards supermarkets give out. Apparently it actually 'collects data' on all the food you buy, and the government is going to use that to control people. LOL.

AM radio is home to the strangest things!

Could you believe that particular conspiracy theory made it to a 2-hours program in our national TV channel back in the 90's? It was a serious program, usually covered stuff like the Kosovo War and Colombian Carteles and stuff. WEIRD.

... The last one, I could have never imagined X'DDD That's quite imaginative.

I love coast 2 coast! It's a special brand of crazy or intrigue imo that I can't help but listen ♥

When I was a kid I briefly clung to the idea that Elvis was alive. The Tupac Shakur being alive one is kinda interesting too.

I never actually believed it, but some of the 9/11 conspiracy stuff was oddly fascinating.

And, as this thread reminded me, I'd love to read more on the Knights Templar and Illuminati, but I wouldn't know where to start, haha.

I like chemtrails! It's weirdly fascinating, and chemtrail people are fun to make fun of. (Some of the suggest spraying white vinegar at the sky. Seriously.)

But really, there aren't many forms of crackpottery that don't interest me. (Okay, JFK and 9/11 stuff is kind of a snooze, but still.)

Also, Vigilant Citizen is a hoot!

I like Ancient Astronauts but I find most conspiracy stuff pretty entertaining.

My favorite source of conspiracy theories is my dad's best friend. I once called him my favorite conspiracy theorist and he got pissed, but he comes up with the craziest stuff.

He told me one story about how there's some Satanic cult that all of the world's highest ranking leaders and government officials belong to, and that during the Bush administration, a video leaked online of some sort of meeting of this group, and they were all wearing black robes and Dick Cheney sacrificed a baby. Of course this video was promptly completely erased from the internet by the men in black.

And in the 80s he was in a bad car wreck and in a coma for a couple weeks, and he says that while he was in the coma he went to hell and met the devil and then somehow ended up in some other dimension where he met some lady who taught him how to travel through portals and see spirits or something.

The Smiley Face Killers theory. At first, the ghouls folk who believed it insisted that the deaths had to be murders, because it's incredibly rare for people to just walk into rivers and drown, no matter how wasted they are. Then they started getting tons of reports of guys who had apparently just walked into rivers and drowned while they were wasted--far too many for any killer to account for.

So rather than conclude the obvious--that it's not all that difficult to blunder your way into a river and drown while you're drunk--the ghouls decided that there was a vast, nationwide death cult with hundreds of separate "pods," murdering college-aged guys and making the deaths look like accidental drownings.

The Smiley Face Killer conspiracy theorists kind of dovetail with the people who believe in Gang Stalking, so...

Huh, I've never heard of that! It's interesting, though.

And gang stalking is terrifying, but so damn fascinating to read about. I don't think I really believe in it as like, a thing (though I'll concede that it could have happened to someone), but it's one of those things that freaks me out if I'm reading weird shit after dark.

I whole-heartedly believe that Marilyn Monroe was murdered.

I whole-heartedly believe that Kurt Cobane Committed Suicide.
