The friends I have are heavily invested in quite a few fandoms and don't move from one fandom to the next.

People can do whatever they want, but it is kind of sad when someone who is fun to talk with suddenly gets into something else and completely loses interest in the activities you were together in. It's kind of like losing a friend. So I tend not to get involved with people who move from fandom to fandom so quickly.

I am most actively involved in my Jpop stuff, but I love comics (cosplayed as Kate Bishop this weekend!), TV and movies. I may not be heavily invested in everything I do (I'm more of a lurker in Community and Parks and Rec, for example), but that doesn't mean I don't care about them.

Yeah the movies definitely had some characterization issues with him and how his role related to Sauron's; he wasn't really on anyone's side but his own. I also disliked how they basically ignored the fact that he's extremely charming, which IMO is a big part of what makes him a scary antagonist. (I thought Christopher Lee was wonderful as him regardless, though.)

I'm with you OP in finding him to be an interesting character, I've never read any fic with him in though so I had no idea he got particularly shafted. That's gotta be annoying.

Kate is the greatest! I cosplayed her this weekend (like, laziest possible cosplay from the cover of Hawkeye #9), and I met a lot of other Kate fans. :)

a stupid problem with tumblr

okay so I started using tumblr not long ago and somehow managed to do something that made me more popular, and I gained about 100 followers in the last two days (idk if that's many compared to other people, but for me it is a lot-- I had 50 or so followers total for the first couple months I used it and now I have almost 300) and it shows no sign of abating.

problem? I made a funny post about a fandom I'm not in, and now I have all these followers from that fandom.
Now I feel like a mega-poseur.

it kinda makes me feel like the person #5 is talking about, except it happened by accident.

Pretty much. You have to think of the reason that there is a diverse cast of women, and it's rarely for progressive reasons; it's for the male audience, usually. There are definite exceptions, but anime is hardly a bastion of feminism.

I don't think it's really on you to be responsible for who follows you, if someone really wants to get an idea of who they follow on tumblr they can easily go through that person's archives and see what fandoms they post for. If that's not your fandom then I'd imagine you don't have many posts related to it, so if that's really their only reason for following you then it's on them for not researching what your blog is about.

People on tumblr follow and unfollow constantly, I tend to be more picky about who I follow because I don't like to unfollow unless I absolutely must (because I know it can hurt to lose followers.)

I don't claim to know what the OP's problem is, but there are people who suddenly lose interest in a fandom and any activity with you to be on Tumblr and give you the brush off when they OMG get all those 100 followers that makes them feel so much better about themselves?

Nothing wrong with Tumblr itself but there are people this shallow no matter where you go.

The New Teen Titans in the 80s is awesome. Not only do you get things like sidekicks figuring out who they are and can become (think Nightwing), but pretty much lays the bones for the arcs the series afterwards seems so fond of retreading because they certainly worked.

I absolutely agree, mostly, because the people that might cry "racism" (or bigotry/ignorance/etc) about this secret are idiots. But it's not an unfounded dear... I'm not saying there aren't "SJW" people out there who get offended by legitimately offensive things, but I have been bitched at over less than what this secret said, and I totally understand why the OP was concerned about it. Some people really seem to believe that any negative opinion about someone that isn't white&straight&skinny&male&american/british is automatically a bigoted statement about a ~foreign culture~

I want a story with gender queer or trans characters that aren't necessarily so in canon. IE, something that takes a canon male or female character and makes them trans or some other nonbinary gender. Others don't have to know, but they can, and if finding out is a plot point, that's cool too.

Any fandom, any genre, any character. Give them all to me! :D
