I feel the same way about Sandman. I love the concept and the characters but the art is AWFUL. God awful. I wish Sandman had been a novel rather than a comic.
ginainthekingsroad: 3 separate yet equally important groups- the police, the DA, and the goddamn Batman (Law & Order Gotham)

How can you say that when the art in Sandman varies SO widely? Sam Keith/Mike Dringenberg's traditional-horror-comic stuff early in the series looks nothing like Jill Thompson's fantasy work in the middle, which in turn looks different from Marc Hempel's abstract/minimalist art, which is deliberately contrasted with Michael Zuli's lush realistic pencil-heavy style.

Honest question, I'm really not trying to be rude: Did you only read the first volume? Because I can see how you'd feel that way about volume 1, but considering the many, many different artists and styles over the rest of the series...

Yes. I read the first one as well as two, three and four because, again, I liked the characters but I never liked the art. Well, the only artist I liked was Chris Bachalo.
