I do think their relationship is cute, but I'd have to agree that it was really shoehorned in. As much as I like it, the movie could have done without it.

It wasn't too organic in my opinion, in either...reasoning or execution.

I'm with you! I was super excited for a short guy/tall girl relationship, and while I loved Calhoun I felt like Felix was kind of annoying and their relationship just fell flat with me.

Actually, I thought that they were looking at both their secret and the vampire upstairs and thinking "how the heck did THAT happen?"

While I didn't care for them either as a couple, them looking up isn't all that funny.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Generally anything but the main plot could be considered shoehorned, like the gameless/homeless dudes

Still a nice touch though, granted I don't like Felix much but she was damn awesome

I certainly though it was cute but yeah, it is pretty shoe-horned in.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-09 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. When i finally saw the movie I was expecting the relationship to be more developed, since a lot of people seemed to like it, but in the movie they just...get together and that's it. The idea is cute, but there's not much there for me to be truly excited about.

You sound like a friend of mine. You two should hang out. There aren't a lot of you.

I don't feel the same way and I didn't think it was shoehorned, but I think it's sad you don't feel comfortable expressing that opinion unanon. I get why you don't. I do. I just feel sad this is the only place you can say it.

Ah well, good luck, OP.

I don't get Ron hate

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
I just don't. I mean I see his flaws but I don't get why people think he's the most awful person in the world. Or why people bashed him while romantcizing Draco. Sometimes sure the Weasley's attitude towards muggles seemed a bit weird or patronizing. But at the same time they did live with magic in most of their family. They came off as more....ignorant if anything. And ignorance is um...something that a lot of people have.

(Also for the "we have a cousin who's an accountant but we don't like to talk about him" line. I read that JKR planned to have a storyline about his daughter that she realized didn't work out. The story was that the accountant was rude to them. I figure that she put in that line building to the plot that didn't work out.)

Bu anyway...I don't get how in this fandom Ron earns all this hate while Draco is turned into a "misunderstood" character. Ron supported Harry most of the time (save for two fights but really....what friends don't fight?) He helped Harry at risk of getting in lot's of trouble and he sacrificed himself for Harry and Hermione. How is he such a hatable character?

I'm too old to tell people that their views of art are objectively wrong, but I have to say, you and I had very different experiences of that movie. Felix/Calhoun was almost my favorite part.

I think it was a little shoehorned in but it was still cute. But I loved Calhoun and I was happy she could be happy.

[personal profile] ex_mek82 2013-07-10 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I felt it was a little forced (guess Disney feels every movie needs a romance? idek), but it wasn't the worst thing about the movie either, imho. Maybe if there's a sequel, we'll get some further development with the two, I dunno.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't really like it either. It was just another average guy/hot girl romance, and the movie gives us no indication of why they like each other (other than Felix thinking Calhoun is pretty), they just go straight from working together out of necessity to making googly eyes at each other? Huh?

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-07-10 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Sergeamt Calhoun and Fix-It Felix, Jr. from the CGI animated movie "Wreck-It Ralph". Calhoun is a woman with short blonde hair wearing a soldier uniform, while Felix is a short man with short brown hair and blue eyes wearing a blue baseball cap and a blue working shirt. Felix is clinging to something while Calhoun clings to Felix. They are both looking up. The background behind them is some strange blank dark orange area. Most of the text of the secret is written before the picture.]

I cannot tell a lie. I really really dislike Felix/Calhoun, and it was (and still is) the only thing stopping Wreck-It Ralph from being utterly flawless. Their romantic interest was shoehorned in and completely pointless. Hopefully the fact that it looks like Felix and Calhoun are looking up at my secret is funny enough to make up for it.

Secret because is there a way to say that and NOT get lynched by the fandom? Yeah, I thought so.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I felt that way when I saw the movie, but every meta piece I've read on it since then has sold me on it more and more (unfortunately I didn't save links though, sorry.)

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Unless a mob comes after you and actually kills you by hanging or some other such horrible means, I'm pretty sure you can say this in your fandom without getting lynched.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know about shoehorned in, but I definitely do feel like the gorgeous talented woman/short average annoying man romance is so fucking boring.

You could always pretend to be super obsessed with Turbo. Then nobody will ask you about your ships ever. :B

I didn't see any chemistry between them at all.
I could see Felix realistically getting a crush on Calhoun, but an actual relationship between them for that reason just seemed really forced and like Disney was trying to meet the Disney status quo on romance requirements per movie.
nachtmusik: (sex is awesome)

[personal profile] nachtmusik 2013-07-10 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree 100%. I felt like Calhoun reciprocating Felix's feelings never made any sense. Honestly I came out of the theater thinking "well, guess Disney felt like they had to make sure a romance got shoved in here somewhere since Brave had none of that". Just. No. It didn't work for me at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
SO many movies put that shit in it when it isn't needed/doesn't belong. It's infuriating.

I didn't really care about their romance either :/ Maybe it's because I'm kinda tired of the hot wife/average looking husband trope.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-11 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I stopped watching the movie when I realized that's what they were setting up. Calhoun was too fucking awesome to get bogged down with that shit. This way in my mind she can be single and free.
