Isn't that pretty much literally what the Smiths are for?

And anyway, how does that make you any less sane than listening to Adele? Just different tastes, and the Smiths are a great band anyway/

Yeah. Them and Joy Division. You listen to them and can't help but think, "My life sucks but not half as bad Curtis' and Morrisey's."

Or not even necessarily that! Just catharsis - listening to someone else deal with problems, and express negative feelings you can identify with, especially when they're able to talk about them in a witty or relatable way.

More with Morrisey than with Curtis, though.

Yep. They consistently make me feel better (as does depressing post-punk/New Wave/goth music in general).
