Wait, sweets? I've heard of Hindus giving food during fasting and drink only water but sweets? (can't understand)

And about the fried chicken, I would love to see a head-sized chicken breast! Over here the city and kampung chickens are only about hand size and smaller.

The idea behind Lent is to give up something you enjoy, at least that's how it was with older Catholics. The standard in the US is candy, but it could be anything from TV to nights out. And if you go far enough back, meat was often forbidden for the entirety of Lent; at some point they changed the rules so you only had to not eat meat on Friday. Wendy's makes a lot of money off their fish menu during Lent, and they know it.

Ohh... okay, now I get it.

And big-budget food commercialism exists there too, huh? Kinda reminds me whenever a religious holiday comes around here and every fast-food store starts making foods that "celebrates the year". Never bought for it.
