I feel like 'menial' can & should be separated from 'dehumanising', too. How humanising or otherwise a job is depends heavily on working conditions - research has boiled it down to a few key characteristics, including having some degree of autonomy, having tangible achievements, and receiving recognition. I've had a menial job that provided those things and a supposedly non-menial job that didn't. So, yeah, it is worthwhile to not dehumanise the people who do menial jobs (or indeed, anyone).

Very much this. Honestly, there's really no excuse for a dehumanizing work environment, especially not in first world countries.

So much this. I've had retail jobs that I enjoyed far more than my $40,000-a-year desk job because I felt like I was actually DOING something and being recognized for my work - being treated like a person rather than an automated secretary.
