He's a good actor, but IMO kind of iffy at choosing parts. He's usually more interesting when he's not working with Tim Burton, but that can't explain the Lone Ranger.

But he was really good in Finding Neverland, for example, and was also good in What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

Agreed about his dubious selection of parts. I respect that he enjoys playing quirky, offbeat characters, and sometimes he does strike gold, but there comes a point where he's ends up playing the same quirky, offbeat character over and over again, and the only difference is what kind of lunatic getup he's wearing this time.

My favorite roles of his are the more "normal" ones. I love Benny and Joon, but aside from that my favorites are Gilbert Grape and Chocolat. Finding Neverland is good too.
