I don't actively dislike anyone in the books (hell, I LOVE Umbridge, but this is coming from the perspective of a writer who enjoys creating villains), they just fall at the bottom. I didn't like what was done with Tonks, I thought Ginny was a heap of wasted potential, and the centaur astronomy teacher came off to me as an awkward failed attempt at estrogen brigade bait, but there's no one I actively hate. As said below, I love the side characters more. The Malfoys, in particular, fascinate me, mostly because we're supposed to see them as pure evil but they seem to have one of the strongest family bonds in the whole series.

But I digress.

if we were supposed to see the Malfoys as pure evil, JKR wouldn't have wrote them as having a strong family bond. Bellatrix and that brother/sister duo from book seven were pure evil. but i guess that's hard to see when one is blinded by fandom's dumb opinions about the books.

But the Malfoys aren't pure evil. They are horrible, horrible people- who nevertheless have the one redeeming feature that they genuinely do love each other, even if they are incredibly selfish in how they live that out. The only person in HP who is purely evil is Voldemort, because he's the only character who doesn't love anyone else at all (even Bellatrix loves Voldemort).

That makes sense to me. Thanks for explaining!
