WHICH FIC SHOULD I (or you) BE WRITING?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-10 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I've got two stories I really need to be working on, and because I want to work on them both, I'm kind of frozen in place and can't make myself work on either. So, knowing nothing about the fandoms, would you rather:

1. Two best friends turned friends with benefits have an ENORMOUS falling out and then get over it and realize how much they need each other after one is hurt. It's smutty.

2. It's a time of war and two parents are distraught over their missing black-sheep of a son. And then his pregnant girlfriend shows up. It's not smutty.

Do you need help deciding on something?

All other things being equal, the first one sounds more like one I'd actually read. Even if it is not as novel as the other one, maybe.

the first one

DA (very DA)

I would actually like to read the second one, what fandom is it for?

The first will get widely read, but I've read some like that and the second is different/more appealing to me.

I want to write a crossover with hatesex but I'm bad at both crossovers and smut. But I have to practice, right? Or I could just.. write about a key character's origins/upbringing, which is obviously less smutty and probably a lot less interesting.

I'm more likely to read the first one, TBH.

I'm stuck on working on either...
1. A rewrite of a book I hate. It's long and smutty, but not very plotty.
2. A highschool AU. There are Speedos and awkward boners and lots of "WE'RE JUST FRIENDS."
3. An AU with the sluttiest mansluts to ever slut meet, fuck, and accidentally fall in love. It's mostly ridiculous.
4. A band AU with some fandom/bandom meta thrown in for the lolz. More awkward boners and "WE'RE JUST FRIENDS."

Note: these all involve the same OC pairing. I sort of have a problem with coming up with new ridiculous situations to throw them into and then...never finishing them >_>;

AYRT
I'd go with the high school AU.

The first one, definitely. The second one sounds very unique and interesting, but it also would be really easy for it to get out of hand in terms of length and plot. The first one is just an easier idea to develop.

I need help with a plot point? I'm writing meet-the-family fic, where the family doesn't realize they're meeting their relative's SO. Said SO pretty much dislikes most of them immediately, but I'm having a hard time coming up with believable reasons that aren't over-the-top and evil. Suggestions? Right now they're a loyal but not very loving family, and they're extremely interested in keeping up with family traditions.

Maybe they're really nosy - like well meaning but super curious and intrusive. That would drive anyone nuts.

I think the second one sounds more interesting. I see the first one all the time.

I've got two fics in the works, but I'm having trouble getting off my lazy metaphorical ass about either of them. One is a really depressing introspective-y AU where character A who's really kind of a bitch drives character B to suicide and starts to go insane from guilt, and their entire group of friends who was kind of responsible for saving the world just gives up and parts ways forever, some turning to darkness and others disappearing entirely.

The other is a sort of a not-so-different prelude-to-awkward-bonding fic where one character discovers her mortal enemy has the exact same emotional hang-up she does about an established dead character they both were close with, and even though she's an angry heroine and he's a smug villain, really the only difference between them is the way they've been handling the loss of this other person. It (the fic itself) won't really go as far as the whole dissolving-rivalry thing because it just wouldn't fit, instead leaving off with the villain ragequitting the whole encounter instead of killing the heroine and her just going "well, that was weird".
