This is one of those things where both sides hate the other side for looking down on them, isn't it?

I mean, all I can say is that I don't have a problem with hard SF - it's usually not my bag - but the only thing that really bothers me is when people say that anything that's NOT hard isn't really SF.

That is why they have different categories of sci-fi. If they can't tell the difference or recognize that, it's their problem. Not anyone else's.
