RIP old puppy.

[personal profile] tasogare_n_hime 2013-07-11 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Had to have my dog Grizzly put to sleep today. We tried to make his last days really good, and really spoiled him. His last meal was cheeseburgers. He had a good long life, but his vision and hearing were going quickly, his arthritis was making it hard for him to get up any steps at all anymore, and we aren't sure he didn't have some kind of Alzheimer’s. He was also getting jumpy, and aggressive with my parent's dog Rex because of everything, and the whole family was worried about them injuring each other, or accidentally injuring someone who got in the way.

I'm devastated about losing him, I can type about it, but I can't talk about it without bursting into tears. Still I think it's much better for him than to have waited till his life was nothing but suffering, or he was severely injured in a fight with Rex.

I'm so sorry to hear of your doggies passing. Putting a dog down is never easy. I had to put down my beloved dog and it was a very emotionally rough time. If you need a listening ear, feel free to PM me.

*hugs*

God, that sucks. I'm sorry your family had to go through that. If your experience is anything like mine it could be a while before you can think of him without getting sad or crying, but that's okay. It's a normal reaction. (Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.)

I know it won't make a difference, but it seems like you did the right thing; you were looking out for his best interests (even if it hurt you) and that's great.

*hugs*

We had him groomed at the beginning of the summer, when he's not he looked like a very fluffy coyote. When he was younger we kept a big bright orange collar on him because we were worried about him getting mistaken for a one and shot.

Oh dear. Putting down a dog is one of the saddest things ever, but sometimes, they just need to stop suffering. Cry away, because getting all the tears out is very cathartic.

*Offers the tighest hugs, if you want them*

It's hard, honey. It's hard, and now you're in pain, and I won't lie: It will be really painful for a long while. But eventually the pain fades to a bittersweet ache and you're left with all the wonderful memories and all the love you had and will forever have for your dog. Trust me on this.
