Uhura fans care about what happens to her character, period. That the pairing got her together when her own free will is compromised does not respect Uhura. It also doesn't respect TFF Scotty, as he didn't want the relationship to be anything other than friendship.

That said, I don't see a problem shipping Scotty/Uhura just for the fun of it. But saying that there was so much love between them in TFF and that's why you love them is ?? Now, basing it on the chemistry of the TOS actors is believable... Anything else requires a great writer, but I wouldn't mind reading it.

OTP, there is no need to side-ship Scotty/Uhura to ship Kirk/Spock. Why does she even need a ship in a Kirk/Spock story? If she just has to have a partner, couldn't they just be left unnamed?
