Re: Cory Monteith - Dead

Been in a sort of shock since I found out this morning. I hate-watch Glee, but I always felt that Cory was better than the material presented to him, and overall a very talented young actor. So sad that he lost the battle with addiction after all those years clean.

Meanwhile I'm ashamed to admit it, but I am rabidly curious about how Glee will handle this.

This, actually. IIRC Finn had just re-established himself as Rachel's twu wuv, set up a college story arc with Puck, proclaimed he wanted to be a teacher (setting him up to return permanently to glee club as coach) and told Will to piss up a rope re their friendship. That's a lot of open plot threads, and they already kind of blew the options they'd had to write him out tastefully.

So yes, very curious as to how they'll address it.

I wonder, too, especially because he was involved with Lea Michele r/l. If they'll involve it in the story, that can't be easy for her.

Would it be too tasteless for his character to... die in-universe?

It wouldn't be the first time network show did so. ABC did it with 8 Simple Rules (for dating my teenage daughter) when John Ritter died. Dealt with the family grief and whatnot iirc.

I think News Radio did it with Phil Hartman, too. As discomforting as it can be to kill off a character when the actor dies, there's something almost worse about pretending the character just moved away or whatever and is off somewhere moving along with life but will NEVER RETURN.

The way News Radio handled Phil Hartman's death was absolutely perfect. I've never cried so hard watching a TV show before or since.
