I feel you, OP. In fact, I'm so anxious to write stuff based on others' preferences (especially a whole set of them) that I gave up doing prompts for now, although I'm really drawn to the idea :(

Judging from my own experience, I think it has something to do with perfectionism. Just cut yourself a little slack and don't be afraid if you can't shove everything in the fic at once. Probably making a draft of your initial "insufficient" vision and then rewriting it with the previously omitted bits in mind might work. Also, I know you have probably said it to yourself a hundred times, but still: if the person says something's not necessary, then, well, it's not necessary. The prompt does NOT oblige you to please the reader's every wish, you're the author, just do it for yourself, because you like it! Given your eagerness to do everything right, I guess you shouldn't worry about going too far with independency.
