A few years ago, I drove a hundred miles to go to a one-day celebration, wherein an actor who mattered a great deal to me as a teen would be appearing.

I stood in line for two hours, acquiring the most lovely sunburn, for a chance to get his autograph.

When I stood in front of him, I was dumbfounded, because I'd done something for the fans in line in front of me, taking their picture, because their camera had broken, and promising to send it to them. I realized after I'd stepped away from the actor that I hadn't actually said anything to him.

I was lucky - the next person in line was still talking to the previous actor, so I stepped back in front of him and said, "You and your show got me through a really tough time in high school. You and your fellow castmates still mean a lot to me, and I wanted you to know."

He took my hand in both of his and gave me a very sweet, very genuine smile, and said, "I'm glad we could help. It means a lot you told me."

So don't think that this band wouldn't react the same way, anon. I didn't expect the actor to react that way, and that he did made me love him all the more.
