Half dozen donut shops in a city....is a lot?

I live in an area where you can have that many at one intersection!

Yeah but it's the rate of change, surely? That's a lot of new donut shops to open up in a short span of time. Since donut shops are usually pretty slow moving - they don't open often and they usually seem like they've been open for at least 40 years.

This concept is also completely alien to this area.

Donut shops open and close all the time. Timmy's usually stay open forever, and there's a mom and pop place not far from my house that's been open as long as I've lived in the general area (about 20 years), but aside from that they open and close pretty regularly, usually replaced by a different franchise in the same place.
