To be perfectly fair, pinging on a gaydar isn't exactly the same thing as Word of God-level proof. Unless I see him snogging Xaldin in a closet (...which was a lovely fic, I might add), I'm not going to close the door on the possibility that he might be gay, straight or even bi.

Because really, I've known gay guys that deeeeefinitely didn't come anywhere near my gaydar, and straight guys that I could have sworn liked other dudes. It's really a subjective thing...

I agree with this, sorry for not making that clear. My point was that, while he did read as gay to me, there's no real canon support for that - he hardly interacts with anybody, and when he does, there's never any feeling of anything sexual about it, so I wouldn't take who the writer paired him with as a sign of how well they got his character.
