I also prefer the book, but I'm baffled by where OP is experiencing "not allowed to like the movie better". The fandom is basically movie-viewers. People may know it's based on a book, but not many read it?
But maybe they've found a rude part of the fandom...or stumble upon some people who preferred the book and took that to mean they cannot like the movie more.
IDK. I'm taking this secret more as OP's excuse to complain about the book than any actual experiences of "if you like movie more you are wrong"

I suspect it's not based on JP fandom, specifically, but book-to-movie fandoms in general.

(I'm in the 'prefer the movie, but daren't say that in most crowds' boat with Lord of the Rings, personally.)
