Duolingo

Has anyone ever used Duolingo? I took Spanish in college but forgot most of it. And I was thinking of using it to try and brush up on my skills.

It works better when you use it in conjunction with something [usually something like a tutor or class] in my experience.

I've not tried it yet, but this Lifehacker article (read the comments!) has been in my "Later" folder for a while.

Like the other person said, Duolingo is best used as a supplement to something more structured. The reason is Duolingo is not very good at explaining grammar rules and this can be confusing to many beginners. It is very good at reinforcing previously learned material like vocabulary and phrase patterns because of its format. Since you had some Spanish experience before, I suggest doing a few lessons on Duo to see where you are at. The lessons are short so it shouldn't take more than 10 to 15 minutes maximum to finish one. (I usually take no more than 5 minutes.) Read the comments for rules you are not familiar with and find workbooks and other materials for explanations and actual practice, because Duo's pool of practice questions are limited.

Late, but I love duolingo. It doesn't really explain grammar concepts, just starts trying to get you to use them, but you may just be able to look up some grammar explanations for the parts that are confusing. Some users also add explanations to different lessons.
