People who look so much like someone else it affects how you act around them?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-18 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
So recently I met a guy I thought was really cute. No chance at the moment to meet him again since I didn't get his details, but in the meantime I've realised he looks a lot like Chris O'Dowd. And now I have a full blown crush on both him and Chris O'Dowd, and I don't know which came first.

Also, an acquaintance I know reminds me eerily in both physical appearance and mannerisms of an ex-best friend, and it throws me off and makes me feel a little uncomfortable whenever I see her, even though my acquaintance is just trying to be friendly and has no idea I feel this way.

Any similar stories, F!S?

one time i changed schools i wanted to befriend this group of girls but then i realized that what attracted me to them was that they reminded me of the friends i had left behind in the other school

shit got awkward so i distanced myself from them

kinda

i got along well enough with people there but we never got particularly close

on the good side, i'm still good friends with the other group (at least most of them) so it all went okay in the end i guess c:

thanks for your kind words

I had a crush on this one guy for about three years. He starts dating this other girl, I was very upset over it. But I happen to, around the same time, finally end up meeting this one guy that everyone's been saying looks a lot like the guy I had a crush on. So he flirts with me, I flirt back because his facial structure pleases me even though he turns out to be really, really weird. And judgemental and shove-it-down-everyone's-throats Christian.
But I just ignored that and continued to talk with him because I was in denial or something and tricked myself into thinking I actually enjoyed his company. Then my crush broke up with his girlfriend and I had an "i'm such a horrible person, what have I done?" revelation and I had to admit that I didn't actually like him at all. And he cried. And I felt like a huge jerk.

Did you get with your original crush in the end?

Not appearance, but I was really getting along with and really liked a friend of mine's roommate until during one visit it hit me that many of her mannerisms were almost identical to my ex's. The realization creeped me out so hard that I had to keep my distance from her the rest of the time I was there. It was really awkward and I haven't been back to their place since. ...This is also the first time I've ever admitted this to anyone because I feel really embarrassed by this for some reason.

Definitely sympathise with that one because of the girl who looks like my ex-best friend - whenever I talked to her I could feel myself almost bodily wanting to fall into the patterns of friendship I had with her, and I couldn't control it, and it was totally disconcerting. Don't be embarrassed, you are not alone!

I had sex with a guy because he looked like a character from my fandom.

I had a crush on a guy. Then I noticed there was... something that reminded me of my ex-boyfriend. It was so minor I don't even recall what it was, anymore. Could've even just been his physical size is similar. Either way, crush: POOF! Still great buds, though. ^^

I feel like when you recognise the similarity, and it wigs you out rather you just noting it, it's probably your subconscious telling you to back off for your own emotional safety. Glad you're still buds though!
