I've been slashing with reckless abandon since forever, but I've never pulled mental gymnastics to "disprove" canonical hints of romantic interest in female characters before.

Actually, I read ベルトルト・フーバー　and ライナー・ブラウン as Berthold Huber and Rainer Braun. フ is hu/fu in Japanese and when you write ライナー in Romaji it would be "Rainaa".
I am German and I know a Huber family and 2 Rainers in real life. There are Rainers and Reiners in Germany.

I always thought Reiner's one-sided love was doomed from the very beginning. This series isn't exactly known for being optimistic.

Eh, I'm far from delusional (or so I like to think) and lord knows I can't buy Bert having a crush on Annie yet. Yet, because later... who knows, right? But as it stands? Nope. Just crazy Reiner being kinda crazy. It's hard to take him at his word at this point.

Yeah, a lot of the fandom seems to have just interpreted that line as more evidence that Reiner has lost his damn mind, because it came completely out of nowhere and even Bert appears kind of baffled by it.

I think the secret might just be referring to Reiner's sudden obsession with getting with Krista, though.

Me too, anon. I read SnK expecting to ship Eren/Levi and after I catched up with the manga... I have feels and ships the Shingeki no Husbandos that will probably die in the next chapters :')

If you're referring to the revelation in the newest chapter... honestly, I don't ship this (or anything SnK) at all and even I thought that was weird and baseless. It just came out of nowhere, so hard to take seriously.
