Personally, I wouldn't count them. Some people might though.

I have friends who would. I'm neutral on the topic, sin

Yeah. I've seen people treat their pets like they were offspring. Dress them up. Take them out in carriages. So, to those people, their dog or cat or whatever is their family.

For me, a dog is a dog is a dog. But then again, I can't really talk because I've never had a dog or a cat. (Allergies.) So, I've never had that sort of relationship with an animal.

So you're saying I have to infantilize my cat in order to imply that my partner and I feed, care for, and clean up after him? It doesn't make us a family until we take away his right to naturally be a cat?

You have some messed up views, buddy.

Whatever. It's your pet. Do whatever legally you want with them. Don't give a flip.

Again, personally, I wouldn't call an inter-species relationship a family. But, again, like I said, that's just me. Whatever floats your boat, pal.

Nice backpedal.

In their previous post, they said:

But then again, I can't really talk because I've never had a dog or a cat.

So how was the subsequent post a backpedal?

Are you so attached to your position that you can't conceive of someone being able to accept that others might have a different take on a subjective issue?

Reading comprehension isn't your strong point, is it?

Plenty of people feel their pet is part of their families without dressing them up in frilly clothes. It's a companion, very often one which lives with you for more than a decade - they're part of the family even without people treating them like their children and cooing nonsense at them.

AYRT (but NAYRT downthread--sorry, did that make sense?)

My friends live on a working farm. So their animals are def. NOT dressed up in frills/treated like child surrogates. But they absolutely are part of the "family" if you mean "household" as "family."

I personally have no stake in the issue (and likely never will), but I'm inclined to agree with you, and say married couple = couple and married with kids = family. married with pets = couple.

Did any of that make any sense? I am rather unwell at the mo'.....
