One of the underlying theme of a lot of those shows ( and Saint Seiya as well) is surviving / triumphing against overwhelming adversity.

We all can use some uplifting heroism now and again, anon (no matter how cheesy the package), so go right ahead and keep enjoying those shows.

No need to cut yourself off from them.

I agree with this annon's comment so hard. I'm 28, and still really like Gundam Wing, despite having first watched it when I was... 15... You are never too old for happiness, and if these anime (with awesome messages) is what makes you happy, then there's no shame in it.

This this this. I may not have been in the OPs situation, but we hit hard times when I was their age and these shows, ESPECIALLY Gundam Wing and Sailor Moon, were some of my biggest influences. It's why I still love these two in particular today. And a lot of that had to with their message of survival.
