TWoP was what brought me back into fandom in general, after years of gafiating, and it introduced me to online fandom. I loved Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who, and the boards for both of those shows were full of bright, opinionated, thoughtful posters. It also helped that I fell in love with Jacob's recaps. The best places to hang out were the "meet market" conversations, and for a lovely few years (I joined in 2006)I hung out in the Doctor Who market regularly. I made some friends and friendly acquaintances there who I still try to keep up with.

TWoP introduced me to LJ and fanfic and I'll always be grateful for that. But since NBC/Bravo bought it, and Sars and the other founders left, it seems to have become nothing but an ONTD-style morass of reality show reviews. Now I rarely comment, even though I still drop by to see what my friends are doing. And even though the motivator thread is largely anime, I always check up there because a)I also love anime and b) at one time my entire vast library of wallpapers came from that thread.

I miss the glory days, but all things change.

I got majorly pissed off when I got angry (in a controlled way) about something sexist in Doctor Who and Jacob with his mod hat on went all sanctimonious and bro-feminist about being positive about the show's gender politics. I mean, wtf dude? He obviously didn't agree with my criticism. Totally inappropriate as a mod. I loved the boards before that but that left me cold. And hi, I remember you, I liked what you had to say! (me staying anon tho)

Jacob's always been the first to say that he's really opinionated, and that's sometimes to a fault. He raked me over the coals a couple of times, and it threw me for a loop until I realized that.

I ultimately decided I was happier with a mod who generally made it clear that he was more opinionated than he perhaps should be, than some so-called neutral mods I ran into later, who wouldn't take sides in things - but who would interpret TWoP board rules so strictly that no conversation could take place. ("Edited for speculation in an episode thread" which almost always shuts down interesting conversations about a show like DW; "edited because it's board on board" Wait, what? Someone mentioned a TWoP tech glitch in the first part of a sentence about the episode. "Edited for something only I know, which I won't tell you." Again, waitwhut?)

(On the other hand, I find it amusing that he got in your face about being angry about something sexist in DW, since he stopped recapping DW, at least in part, because he was angry about what he thought was sexism in DW. Which I disagreed with, and there you go. Heh.)

Also, I'm glad whatever I had to say didn't suck!
