The best way I can think of to put it, or at least the simplest, is that it's called privilege because society is designed for people who match specific attributes. Thus the 'privilege' is that society has basically been designed for you, and leaves people who don't match those attributes at a disadvantage when there doesn't need to be one.

Also, I'd recommend looking at the anon below's comment since...they're probably a little less confusing. ^^;;
