Well, personaly I don't see anything wrong with liking Harry Potter better than HDM, or all those other books in your secret.

What's wrong about thinking a book is better than some others?, people who go HDM > HP are doing the same so why do they feel they have the right to judge you?.

The problem is really with newer children's books

Yeah, I'd had that same problem with fantasy books most of all, aside from HDM and HP I haven't been able to find anyother fantasy books [that aren't more than fifty years old that is] that can captivate me the way those series did, and there is just so many times one can re-read the Hobbit.

Anything I've tried bores me to death, sometimes I'm afraid that this is it, no one will write a good fantasy book ever again and I'll have to set for the ones that are already written.
