'Snape's whole life is Snape bashing' made me laugh so hard. :)

People are having the same discussion about Wuthering Hights and whether or not it's a love story. In the end, it comes down to how you define love; as an ideal, or as a psychological reality. If it's the latter, bad people can love, and become even worse for it.

It's an awfully vague term, though. No wonder Ancient Greek has for words for it.
