--Still thinking Denny's is an "expensive restaurant"
--Being blissed out whenever you eat fast food because it used to be "too expensive" ("WOW I'M EATING A WHOLE EXTRA VALUE MEAL WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE" "I HAVE THIS PERSONAL PAN PIZZA AND I DON'T EVEN NEED TO SHARE IT!!!")
--Spending surprise money ASAP on Fun Things in the fear it will somehow summon surprise Normal Expenses and vanish into nothingness

Shiiiit. I thought I'd mostly gotten over my childhood of poverty, but all of these (especially that second one) are totally me. D:

While I wouldn't say I grew up poor (although there are a lot of things mentioned here that did apply to me growing up, because my parents grew up poor)... until last year, my partner and I (who are both disabled; my partner has an amazing job that lets them work remotely and basically at whatever hours they want) had spent the past 5yrs or so without medical insurance, and supporting my ex who is also disabled. So, there are a lot of things that I'm seeing here that we learned as survival tactics in the five years we were paying easily half our paycheck (sometimes more) in medical expenses.

Er, that got long, but OMG - "Spending surprise money ASAP on Fun Things in the fear it will somehow summon surprise Normal Expenses and vanish into nothingness" -- is something we are having to learn to deal with, because we actually have the money to be able to start saving and stuff. But having spent so many years with any extra money going POOF.....

"In the fear"? In. The. Fear? This is a sad, true fact! You get some tax return? The next week you lock yourself out from you apartment with only a piece of paper clutched in your hand and you had to use your neighbor's phone to call an emergency locksmith. Of course, with emergency prices.

You count on summer months being "less expensive", because there's no heating bill you have to pay? There's something unexpected in every friggin' month from a fee to a nationwide broadcast-technique change, or something bizarre like that...

Fear... Ugh.
