You're confusing fanon with canon, dear. Most of the time, fandom will make characters far more complex and nuanced than they were ever written. Seriously, given that large swaths of HP fandom center around stringent beliefs in Harry/Draco, Hermione/Draco, Hermione/Snape, and Remus/Sirius? That's shit fandom made up all on their pretty little own, not some magical skill the original author had at weaving complexity and nuance into her characters.
