[Star Trek: TNG]

Crusher is of the reasons I like Picard more than Kirk. While both Captains bedded their random space babes, Picard was much more subtle and sophisticated about it and his long-standing friendship/possibly more vibes with Crusher (and Guinan) came off as classy and genuine. It was fun to see.

Then again, "sophisticated playfulness" might just be because: Patrick Stewart.

Not to his fantastic voice.

"his long-standing friendship/possibly more vibes with Crusher"
It was canonically more. He's been in love with her since his days at the Academy and she fell for him after her husband's death. It was mainly because of their positions in Starfleet that they didn't act on it.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-25 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yes..her husband's totally accidental, and in now way involving a sabotaged airlock and three pounds of C4, tragic death. It was complete coincidence that a shipment of space viagra arrived on the ship the very same afternoon too.

Oh man. You know, I love Picard/Crusher in canon, but I ship Picard/Guinan in fandom like burning.

So... you did all this by yourself or...?

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-07-25 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I did it with three friends (and shared it with a few more fandom friends), while pseudo-pretending that I was watching it first-run during the '80s-'90s :)

Okay, not that actually sounds like a lot of fun. Kind of like roleplaying. At first I thought you were doing this all alone and I was like, "That seems like a lot of work with little payoff."

Glad you had fun doing something silly, OP.
chardmonster: (Default)

[personal profile] chardmonster 2013-07-25 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
No, silly. They had their pez dispensers to keep them company.

forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-07-25 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
For I moment I thought the pez would come out of their mouths and I was like, "Their mouths are too small..."

But thank you for the correction. All makes sense now.

BUT WHERE'S WESLEY?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-25 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, that's awesome but what on earth is going on with the Enterprise back there? It looks nothing like her!

Haha, sounds like fun, OP.
naraht: Beverly Crusher sits on the captain's desk (st-Bev)

You should have been on TrekBBS back in the day! We had the greatest P/C threads. :)

I love Picard/Crusher together. Even when I didn't know there was a term for shipping I shipped them.

Glad you had fun on your rewatch :)

lol @ "Zutaranesque" :D

Also? They both look so damn fine in that pic. Especially Picard. Man knows how to wear a hat like a pro.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-25 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
That was the Peabody Award winning episode "The Big Goodbye"

OT but...

(Anonymous) 2013-07-25 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Have you noticed that almost every guy in Starfleet has those exact same pointy curved sideburns that Picard is sporting in that pic? I wonder if they're like the 24th century equivalent of a Marine-cadet buzzcut or something...

Re: OT but...

(Anonymous) 2013-07-25 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It was definitely deliberate. It originated in TOS: they didn't want to foist weird haircuts on the entire cast, particularly not on guest cast who would need normal haircuts for their next job.

They chose pointy sideburns as a small difference from contemporary haircuts that would be easy to grow and then to get rid of.

[Picture is Dr. Beverly Crusher and Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Beverly has pale skin and curly red hair, and is wearing a black hat with a thin netted veil covering her face. She is wearing a collar of pearls and a pink blouse or dress. Picard has lightly tanned skin and very short brown hair. He is wearing a dark gray hat and a brown and gray suit.]

For over a decade of being a fan, I only ever shipped them in a casual, low-key way. However, in my last rewatch, for shits and giggles, I decided to keep note of their relationship episode-to-episode and pretended I was a batshit obsessive Zutaranesque shipper, complete with imaginary rants, flamewars, and demonization of other love interests. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN.

Zutara: Portmanteau of Zuko and Katara, characters from the cartoon show "Avatar: The Last Airbender"/"Avatar: The Legend of Aang". Some of the shippers of the pairing were fairly vocal and very passionate to the point of antagonization, earning that subset of the fandom a bad name.

I shudder to think what you must have said about Pulaski. XD
cakemage: (Seven has fainted.)

[personal profile] cakemage 2013-07-25 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. Not that you have to ship Picard/Crusher to hate Pulaski, but I certainly won't fault the shippers who harbor a special hatred for her. Goodness knows I'd rather be stuck in a shuttle with both Wesley and Neelix on space-meth than be on the same planet as her.
