I think that if they gave Mai more of an actual role... Or just maybe more less lame "I hate the world" speaking parts, then she might have more of a character. As it stands, she's just a lame emo kid who's sappy as hell. Zuko has more depth at least.

I wouldn't want to torture Ty Lee with Mai. If I wanted to torture Ty Lee, I would pair her with Azula.

Well...that kind of doesn't bother me since Ty Lee/Azula is my OTP 8D Even if Azula kind of bullies her and is awful and yeah.

That's just your opinion :( I think Zuko, while I like him, is a typical anti-hero. Just like Aang is the archetypical optimist protagonist. And I like both of them that way, so I don't mind Mai being bored and apathetic and cynical and lame teenagery-gothy about everything, because hey, some people really have those personalities.

It was like watching two teenagers picnic at hot topic together or something. I mean , I don't hate the pairing, but I was just laughing out loud at the writing :| And this is coming from someone who ships like EVERYTHING in Avatar. I cringed, I admit it. I cringed hard.

I didn't like how they threw them together in the comic and assumed that everyone would read it so they knew what was going on in the show.

I don't ... dislike the pairing, I guess. I think it's rather boring, but I don't dislike it. (But it's still boring.)

Ah okay , I wanted to make sure I hadn't offended you!! And I agree, it was very rushed. There wasn't much development, and while I like their personalities together as friends/a childhood flame thing, I can see cute flirting but that's it. I don't know, I wasn't prepared for the writers to put them together in this kind of way. It's very in your face and while I was okay with it in episode 1, after episode 2 I'm not so sure. I hate bashing though so I'll just agree with you that it's not my thing. D:

fjkdl to me, it feels like Zuko's doing what he's forced to do. He's doing the "right thing" a prince should do? Everything that Iroh sort of tried to edge him away from while they traveled in Season 2; and even Zuko said "this isn't how I envisioned it being." So I don't think he quite likes it, but he's forcing himself to? NOT TO SAY THAT HE DOESN'T LIKE MAI BECAUSE THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT. BUT that he does, but he's forcing himself to move fast because of it?

oh well for crazy explanations.

I think with mai it seems like more of an attraction thing, because while they got a lot of flirting and making out going on, I'd like it if the writers gave them more emotional moments to connect :I Otherwise I'm not buying it. It used to be a pairing I really liked the thought of before this season, but now I'm just so eh on it. I think he likes Mai but I don't think he really wants to spend a future with her or is comfortable with the thought of that, IF THAT MAKES ANY SENSE.

Plus, he's a teenager. THEY DON'T THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS BECAUSE THEY ARE HORMONAL DUMBDUMBS THAT LONG FOR THEIR FATHER'S APPROVAL

Well, Zuko kind of did try to connect in the first episode when he admitted to be afraid of going home. She kind of brushed him off, told him not to worry, and then walked away.

However, what's really interesting, is that the creators were talking about how most officials and [new] royalty (I say new because the concept of there being "royalty" in the Fire Nation is new, in itself) are arranged. It's sort of falling into that category where Zuko believes that he will be happy with that.

But Zuko is a stupid teenage boy.

ALSO I didn't mean this comment as bashing of Mai/Zuko :( because that just usually leads to Mai bashing and I want to protect my babykins because i adore her and hate character bashing in general!

I just don't like rushed romances, period. Less is more in romance, when it comes to canon and writing at least.
