1 - ...so I don't see where the hate part comes in if you enjoy it, but I do get your point. Good genfic is just so hard to find...

2 - AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh my god. XDDDDDD

4 - Mmmm, Zechs. It's that long gorgeous pale hair. And Koyasu Takehito's voice, unf unf unf.

7 - It's not cheesy at all. It's just... well, some of the old fans are elitist asshats who wouldn't be happy unless they erased all traces of the Compilation from the earth, and they're not willing to give n00bs the chance to prove they're legitimately interested in the fandom and aren't just in it for the hotties (even if some of them ARE), so they scare them off. There's people who suck on both sides, but really, can't the rest of us just ignore the lot of them and get along? Please?

...Compilation n00bs vs. original-game oldtimers is like the new Cloud/Tifa vs. Cloud/Aeris. Except apparently it's not as easy to solve (Cloud/Tifa/Aeris FTW).

9 - ORGXIII SUCKS.
YEAH, I SAID IT.

12 - As hard as keeping it inside can be, it really does stop you from looking like an idiot. So no, I wouldn't group you with them.

13 - ARGH I KNOW JUST WHAT YOU MEAN.

16 - If you find anything Angeal/Zack, or Sephiroth/Angeal/Zack, please let me know? :D

22 - I never understood all the rabid Snape love myself.
Also... Atticus Finch? What the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck D:

30 - ME TOO. Nobody else hit me anywhere near that hard.

33 - REPEAT. I recognize that adorable fanart.

Will do! ...Except we're both anonymous and will probably never find each other again ahahaaaa =_=;

I never thought anything would ever outnumber the Zack/Cloud doujinshi in my collection, but if the Japanese fans are with me on this -- well, let's just say Angeal/Zack will take the top spot.

Ohh, I hear ya. That pairing has totally eaten my brain since that game came out. ♥

It's not cheesy?

I'll be honest. I wish Compilation didn't exist. But it's certainly not because of the prospect of few fans; it's because I find Compilation stupid and it frustrates me that new fans are exposed primarily to it and not the original game.

Okay, so it maybe it is kinda cheesy, but it's a nice sentiment and I wish it would happen. The fandom would be better off without all the hatewank.

And we n00bs who care do try to make sure we get that original-game exposure. It's just damn hard sometimes, with the game being 10 years old and almost impossible to find (especially for a reasonable price) unless you're lucky enough to know someone who has a copy. I was one of the lucky ones myself, but...

I understand the physical game is difficult to find, but emulators are pretty by the dime nowadays, especially for something as high-demand as FFVII. Don't get me wrong, anyone who came in after Advent Children and bothered to play the game is fucking awesome in my book, because they resisted the temptation of an easy and shallow fix---and that temptation is exactly why I wish Comp. (and especially Advent Children, since the others are at least GAMES) didn't exist.

...Oh my god I think I just need to write a dissertation and get it out of my system.

(Anonymous) 2007-10-03 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
I see exactly where you're coming from. The movie, in its barely hour-and-a-half length, is just a quick-fix -- it doesn't permit the sort of investment in the characters and plot that the hours and hours of gameplay it takes to finish FFVII do, and thus allows for the sort of passive people who would never dedicate all that time to become invested in the characters to try to claim they have a genuine knowledge of them when, really, they DON'T, because characters have either been reduced to pale shades of their true selves (such as Reno [and by extension Rude, too] being reduced to comic relief, or Aeris stuck with the whole Jesus-figure schtick and none of the personality that made her interesting) or given pretty much no screen time at all (poor Nanaki).

...Yeah, I can definitely understand why it's so incredibly frustrating that people are willing to stop there when they don't even know the HALF of it.
