I don't think it really matters whether he really, truly, in his heart of hearts, hated wizards from non-magical lineage and/or muggles. He joined a group dedicated to shaming, exterminating, or otherwise harming them. I think this is a case when actions speak louder than intentions.

Well, he may have disliked them in general due to the way he was raised, but he fell for Lily, and she's one of them. There may be hope for him. He was essentially a "good guy"
And as far as her falling for him, I'm just repeating what I read in a JK interview.
