[The Cinema Snob]

[Picture is a man holding a burning... piece of something while another man leans back away from the flame. Both of them have light skin and short dark hair and are wearing T-shirts. The man leaning away is wearing eyeglasses. The fandom is marked as "The Cinema Snob".]

I want to enjoy Brad's midnight screening videos but I find his friends to be such repugnant, offensive, racist assholes, I just can't sit through them. It also makes me sad that Brad defends their bullshit. I always thought he'd be a decent guy.

They're Jake and ...Irving? Jake is burning a ticket stub from "The Internship."

I think it's David (aka Max Force).

Their names are Jake and David. They went to see The Internship and Jake hated it so much he burned his ticket (that's what you see burning)

And actually, you can just barely see Brad's head peaking out from behind David's shoulder.

Thanks! I'll add this to page 2!

Does anyone have any actual, source-able examples of this? I watch quite a few of these and I've never seen an instance of outright racism or otherwise from any of them. They're just vaguely crude, normal dudes to me.

Long and short: Someone gimme evidence.

I thought Irving's bit about "Japanese goofy talk" during the Cars 2 review was kinda racist.

There was a radiodrome episode where one of them complained about making Perry White black, and how not liking it didn't make him racist.

There's a running joke about how Brian's (?) family used to own slaves, there's some randomly questionable stuff said here and there, and then of course there's Jarred who was just an unfunny jackass who complained about his disabled sister in...I think it was a Radiodrome? And didn't know what Aspergers was and wouldn't shut up about how he thought the girl from Glee kept saying "Ass-Burgers". Thankfully he's gone for the most part.

Despite all this, I love the Midnight Screenings.

Just FYI: The "Slaver Brian" thing started with Texas Chainsaw 3D review. There was a Black character named after the director of the original movie, which meant he was a Black guy name Tobe (pronounced like Toby), which led to them making a Roots joke ("That's not his real name! The White Man gave him that name!"). David then asked why recently everything on the Site had led back to Roots references. Brad stammered a bit, then turned to Brian, saying "Help me out, Brian, you used to own slaves..."

That's still pretty Not Cool on a couple of different levels, imo.

Cinema Snob + Notasgia Critic : asshole magnets

First of all, Brad's friend can stop it with all that Toby shit, movie reference, joke, or not!

But back to #8 on that list and the commentary on Brad's friend's :it right on the money. The only decent ones besides Brad are the redheaded girl and the two big guys as far as the midnight screenings videos, I'm cool with them. I only discovered Cinema Snob and Nostalgia Critic's content not to long ago, and it seems the more I learn about these two, the more off-the-chain, ugliest shit I unearth! And the majority of it is the people they've surrounded themselves around!

I don't care if you've known a motherfucker since you were in 5th grade! When do you come to a point where abuses , disrespect, and violations against you, your person, and those you care about outweigh a friendship???

Im not saying that they're perfect, but to me they seem like two decent guys who love what they do and are passionate about what they do. I enjoy they're videos. But it seems they got into this brief cycle of having the 2% ain't shit people in their lives almost cost them they're reps and their livelihood.

But it seems that they've made it through the storm of shitty friends and associates now. And I hope they're in a good place personally AND professionally and never have to go through that shit again!

I rather them go through shitty movies than shitty, scum of the earth individuals that try to railroad them!

who complained about his disabled sister

And? Lots of people complain about their siblings, especially if they're difficult to live with. Disabled siblings can be very hard to live with and love.

He's not just gone "for the most part", he's actually gone. Brad fired him because his commentary got too offensive, and then he made jokes about Jill's breastcancer and was generally an asshole.

A recent example is when one of the guys said that after watching Grown Ups 2, he understands Hitler's perspective and that everyone who made the movie should be gassed to death like the Holocaust (knowing full well that Adam Sandler is Jewish).

In the past, he made a similar joke that a black actor (I think it was Tyler Perry) should be lynched.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-26 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
There's got to be a bunch of other webseries consisting of people sitting on their asses talking about the movies they just watched.

Half in the Bag comes to mind. Recs?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-26 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of find him to be boring. I only watch the reviews to see angry Jake bitch about movies, to be honest

(Anonymous) 2013-07-26 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
tbh the midnight screenings would be a lot more tolerable without irving. he's the only one who says offensive shit.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-26 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
I love that your measure for what makes a decent person is so narrow.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-26 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Is it? I'm not familiar with this fandom, but if one person is saying offensive bullshit and another person is defending it, I'm gonna assume both of them are assholes.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-26 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, one of my best friends loves these - she used to love everything on TGWTG but has thankfully developed a slightly more discerning taste (disclaimer: I love a lot of the stuff that gets posted there, and a lot of the contributors are hella-awesome, but so much of Channel Awesome is unfunny angry nerds just ranting at their webcams, and I don't care to watch that for too long). I think she once said she doesn't like one of Brad's friends, I wonder if the racist jokes are a part of it.

The examples sited in the comments here are making me happy I never watched these. I don't mind people making off-color jokes or comments but sometimes a racist joke can just ruin my day, and I really don't need that from my internet entertainment.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
One thing that pissed me off (I can't remember if it was Irving or Brian who said it) was during the Identity Thief review. Apparently Jason Bateman's character said something like 'you look beautiful' to Melissa McCarthy's character and Irving/Brian said 'no she doesn't! She looks like Melissa McCarthy! She's fat!' Those weren't the exact words but that was the gist of it. Because you know, Brian and Irving are so fit/hot. Ugh, that one got to me.

I like Brad and I like watching the midnight reviews but they do sometimes say stupid things that make me question their character.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Brad and I like his videos but yeah... some of his friends are offensive. I'm not even easily offended, I can tolerate a lot. However in one of the fairly recent reviews (I think it was Grown Ups) one of the guys kept saying "I understand why Hitler wanted the final solution, everyone who participated in this movie should be put in a gas chamber".... he said something along those lines and I found it extremely insensitive and vulgar.
