would you describe yourself as "broken"?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-25 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw a few people use the term on another site recently to describe themselves, and found it pretty interesting the way they almost seemed to find an identity in it. A reclamation of as term society had imposed upon them.

Reminded me of the way 4chan uses normalfag I guess.

"The Los Angeles Times reported that sixty-three percent of American families are now considered dysfunctional. Know what that means? We're the majority. The normal people are the freaks. When Armageddon happens, thirty-seven percent of this population is going to lose their minds. 'Oh my God, the world is over!' Us sixty-three percent? We're going to go, 'Hey... there's no one watching the Lexus dealership!'"

Nope. Slightly worn or banged up at most.

If you send me back to the manufacturer, it may take several months of repair before you see me again.

No, I'm all sorts of fucked up, possibly damaged, but not broken.

Not totally, but every once in a while there's some fixing required. Or maintenance. Or both

Nope. Kooky cloudcuckoolander-ish, but will generally function if directed.

Still basically functional. So no.

No. People aren't machines so they can't be broken in my eyes. Everyone has problems. Everyone gets beaten down. Some have it worse than others. But no matter what has crushed a person I'm not going to call them broken. They may need help but they're not broken. So by extension, I never feel I'm broken.

Now, does that mean I think people are wrong when they use it for themselves? No. That's how they choose to express themselves and I can respect that.

I'm not broken, I just have a different purpose than the one I'm expected to be used for. Looks pretty similar from the outside.

I might describe myself that way if it didn't make me feel so utterly pathetic.

You should get an oil change once a year or approximately every 7,500 miles. A lot of people don't read their manuals correctly and then wonder why they don't run as well as they used to.

Re: would you describe yourself as "broken"?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-26 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yes - but probably for a different reason than they do. For me, it's mainly because I've been through enough shit I literally can't trust people - even people I've known my whole life, and used to trust with my life.

I would feel melodramatic if I called myself that, so no.

Only sarcastically.

Re: would you describe yourself as "broken"?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-26 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think there are parts of me that are fundamentally broken. But I would never think of that as a reclamation nor an identity. Simply a descriptor.
