Music that soothes?

[personal profile] pantasma 2013-07-25 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by #7. So what do you listen to to raise your spirits? Or calm the rage.

When I get mad, I listen to Maroon5's "Harder to Breathe".

I listen to quite a few songs covered by the Vitamin String Quartet, where it's popular music done in beautiful strings!

Laura Marling.

All of her songs, really (she's probably my favorite active music artist), but in particular, "Sophia" off A Creature I Don't Know and the second half of Once I Was An Eagle (from "Undine" to "Saved These Words" - every song in that stretch is really, really good).

Mostly instrumental stuff, mostly from soundtracks.
Some of my favorites are
Go to Rakuen from Wolf's Rain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwvQ6Hs7tJE
Sagitta Luminis from Madoka Magica: https://soundcloud.com/loophaze/sagitta-luminis (Apparently Sony won't let anyone put Madoka Magica music on Youtube so I had to go to sound cloud..)
Princess, Sophia from Last Exile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xd3DDOyiao
Reset, Thank you version from Okami: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRx9gnY0Mp0
I like Disney soundtracks for calm down/perking up music too.

To get excited I listen to anything I can sing or jump* to. (I'm not going to call it dancing.)

Everything else is up in the air. It's less that I listen to music to evoke a specific reaction and more I'm listening to music randomly that happens to evoke a reaction.

*Or at least makes me want to move.

Um, an example of something that... makes me more pumped would be a song like this mashup.

You are not alone!

These are mostly "fill me with the urge to jump around (and maybe wreak havoc a little bit)" songs... so they do pretty much the opposite of "soothe", but nowadays, "the urge to jump around (and maybe wreak havoc a little bit while we're at it" is one of my better moods:

Ivan & The Parazol: Take my Hand
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5udMsfoGxHw

Carbonfools: Birthday
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hdc-WJuuw_A

Monstaz: Give it Away
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cd3jy0hh638

I think I should listen to more music from abroad.
