OP here.

The fandom is mostly on Facebook and Tumblr. And I ... am not. Although that is an excellent idea, the person who plays the character in question is very very very active online, so that might be weird.

I am a fan of the show. Does that mean I'm not "in the fandom" just because I don't like the same things the fandom likes? If the online fandom was a LOT more gen than slasherrific, I would participate in the Internet stuff, because the show itself is great and has potential, has many layers, is engaging, etc., etc.

But all the fandom sees is TEH SMEXY SLASH!!!!!ELEVENTY ugh.

I shouldn't laugh since I am not familiar with this fandom, but this is hilarious!

And this wonderful example encapsulates why I am not on Tumblr. Which is really irritating since it's where most of the activity is happening for one of my fandoms, but the posts -even for my OTP- are so over-the-top and full of 'feels' that I cannot cope and end up skulking in the corners of AO3 instead. This unfortunately means that I miss a lot of good stuff, but oh well.
