Why?

Doesn't seem much value in preserving something for the sake of preserving it, and it's never a battle you're going to win.

Even setting that aside, I fail to see how another group making use of the aesthetics in any way hurts the original culture.

da. Years ago when I was a young fandomer, I thought of what wonders the future might bring. And I can honestly say I never ever expected that we'd be arguing over whether or not it's appropriation to photoshop specific types of flowers onto people's heads. Makes me wonder what the next few years will bring.

Re: first point, well, why museums? Why the fields of history and archaeology? Why any recording media, why journals or blogs? There's at the very least personal and scholarly value in a culture that's lasted long enough to be recognized as distinct, regardless of relative obscurity, imo.
