Rant about the state of my mental health

(Anonymous) 2013-07-25 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
So my doctor is taking me off anti-depressants saying I "probably don't need them after all this time". I tried to convince her I do need them, but now I've gone from 20 mg to 5 mg and it's going to be zero in a few days. The problem is that I go to a local low-income clinic. I've been talking to people and they say that due to budget cuts the clinic is under pressure to reduce "unnecessary" procedures and prescriptions. I guess this includes my meds and I guess it's happening to other people too. So far, not so good. Sorry, just needed to rant. Does anybody have any advice for this?

If you are convinced I'd have been more insistent. Sounds like you eventually let her convince you of this more then anything.

OP. Well, now I read the post on Amanda Bynes and feel a little better about my life.

Ask if you trial that 5 to 0 MG, and if it doesn't work (and you'd know pretty quickly, I'm guessing!), that you go back to the 20 MG.

I'm sorry, anon; I've had to go to the low-income clinic before, and it depends on the day/time I go as to what doctor I've gotten, and how they've treated me. I empathize.

Live in a country and a society that's not terribly and consciously cruel to anyone who doesn't have money.

I don't know, I don't really have any advice for you. Good luck, anon. It's fucking terrible that you're in this situation.

I say go back and insist on being put on the meds. But if you've been getting weaned off of them since before the rumored budget cuts, I'd be more trusting of your doctor about if you need them or not. It's natural to feel anxiety about coming off of a medication you've been on for a long time, but most people on anti-depressants don't need them for the rest of their lives.
