Same. I was pretty ambivalent about it (for the same reasons; I didn't know him, I didn't really watch the show) but when I heard "Don't Stop Believing" come on the radio a day or so later, I fell apart. It wasn't even the Glee version, damn it! I don't even know.

DA I think for me it was the age, and the fact that despite the drugs, he seems like a pretty sweet person. Also he was like a year younger than me when he died, so yeah, that shows how abruptly life can be taken away.

I understand what you mean. I never really liked Glee, save for a token episode now and then, but Finn was always my favorite and one of the only reasons I would check in on the show. When I heard that he died, I almost broke down in tears even though I'm not a huge fan of the show he was on. Last night I watched Rocky Horror Picture Show and got choked up all over again. It's just so sad to see a life snuffed out too soon. ;__;

I was sad for his family and those who knew him, but like any celebrity death, I didn't personally care. Until I went back to watching old episodes. I found myself crying and I'm not really sure why.

I think it's because a lot of the generation that watched Glee to begin with are pretty young, maybe too young to remember people like Phil Hartman or Heath Ledger, so Cory Monteith is the first celebrity they know who died, and it's their first time realizing that, when they watch those reruns or listen to their old playlists, that they're actually listening to a dead man. I mean, for me, Cory Monteith was someone to be ignored, so every time Finn was onscreen, I would mentally make him part of the wall, but that doesn't mean that I don't notice when a giant chunk of the wall disappears.

Edit: I just remembered Richard Griffiffths of Harry Potter fame, but he was old, so it wasn't as much of a surprise. And I know that sounds callous, but I was so torn up I couldn't actually touch any of the books for weeks without crying.

Seriously, stop calling Richard Griffiths OLD. He was 65, which may be considered "Senior citizen," but people like Christopher Lee and Stan Lee are both still chugging along into their 90s. No way was Richard Griffiths that old.

Except old is not an insult? And I did say I found it tragic? What I actually said was that Cory Monteith's death was more of a surprise than Richard Griffifths, because he was closer to the age of the people who watch Glee. And I don't know if it's just because I come from a family where most people die in their fifties, but yeah, sixty-five years sounds like a really long time.
