SmartPhones

So my contract is up, and I can pick out a new phone! The question is, do I wait for Verizon to release the HTC One, do I get the iPhone 4S/5, HTC DNA, or the Nexus 4? What phone do you guys have and how do you feel about it? What have you heard about other phones? Just looking for some personal experiences here. Thanks! :)

I don't want to hijack your thread or anything, but I'm also interested in some smartphone recommendations, as I get the feeling my HTC Desire is about to die on me. I've been looking at various Sony Xperia models, and they look pretty nice, so I was wondering if anyone has anything to say about them?

No worries. I'm trying to do search on-line, but finding conclusive results is daunting.

Same. The problem is you don't really know for sure what you're getting until you actually have it, I guess.

Is there anyway to see user reviews on Verizon's site? I know that when I was looking for a new one, AT&T did - and it helps to point out the more common problems people run into with the phone that a review site might not think to include/might not include simply because they generally go by certain test than using it day to day.

The only smartphones I've ever had have been iPhones but I really don't like them anymore. I got the 5 when it came out and it just isn't all that great, but it's little stuff that bothers me.

The keyboard clicks are really quiet, the autobrightness feature needs to be "trained" by the user over time which means it's useless when you actually need it, there are a bunch of useless apps that you can't delete unless you jailbreak it, and Siri can't understand anything I say unless I change it to British Siri and then it's a man's voice and he only understands half of what I say. And it isn't like I have any kind of accent, either; I've never lived anywhere more than 5 years and literally have no accent at all.

The worst for me though is that the headphone jack is at the bottom of the phone. I plug my phone into my amplifier and have to lay it down somewhere instead of propping it up like I used to. I could prop it on its side but I hate the sideways coverflow controls when I'm listening to music and it takes too much time for me to adjust song position and stuff when I'm trying to play along to something on my guitar. But I also find the jack placement annoying when I'm out and want to listen to music on my headphones because then the controls are all upside down if I put my phone in my pocket. Apple claims this is a good thing and that they're going to have the jack on the bottom for the next generation, too, so I'm getting any non-Apple phone when my contract is up for renewal.

So you don't talk? Because an accent is how you pronounce words, so unless you're mute then you have some kind of accent. It just may be one that's mixed.

Accent (noun) - a distinct emphasis given to a syllable or word in speech by stress or pitch.

If AYRT is American, chances are high they don't have an accent by definition. Most Americans don't.

Uuuuuuum... Accent in this context is obviously referring to speech connected to a specific locale. Considering this, 1. I'm fairly sure the first anon does have an accent, it's just mixed, as another anon mentioned. It's ridiculous to say you don't, because there is no such thing as, in this case, unaccented, geographically neutral English. 2. Most Americans have an American accent. Not by definition, but by growing up in America and therefore developing an American accent.

This the single most dumbest thing i have read on the internet all month.

I've never had real issues with the headphone jack on the bottom but it took getting used to. I guess I just like my 5 because I had a 3GS for so loooong. And the retina screen is easier on my eyes.

I guess you could hide the useless apps in a single folder. I did with some, but I've got so many apps now that I barely notice the stock apps anymore.

I also have nothing to compare the iPhone to (I've never used Androids, Blackberries or Windows phones) but they've always done the job for me.

I'd rec a galaxy s3, it's dropped in price since the s4 came out. above all else tho I would rec against getting an iphone.

seconding reccing a galaxy, they're awesome. i've never had problems with mine and several of my friends have actually switched from an iphone to a galaxy and are much happier. if you can afford it, you'll be amazed at how much better they are than a cheaper android model as well.

DA - I swtiched from iphone to s2 a while back and love it. I don't know anyone with the s3 or s4 but I'd still rec it and definitely rec against the iphone.

I have an Iphone 4 right now. It's 3 years old but still works great. It's a bit slower and some apps hang, but it's also jailbroken and running on iOS 5 so can't complain much.

I'm lusting for hard for the HTC One right now. What sold me are the videos on the Pocketnow youtube channel.

I find their reviews and comparisons very helpful. Maybe they can help you decide too. HTC One and Galaxy S4 are considered the flagship Androids right now.
