Re: "Female"
(Anonymous) 2013-07-26 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)I mean it's a little more clinical than I'd like, but I don't see it as an act of oppression.

don't be a jerk about it, especially if you KNOW people will get bothered
Re: "Female"
(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 12:23 am (UTC)(link)If someone has a legitimate reason to be upset by something, I will take into account their feelings. I will not stop using a word just because someone is bothered by it.
While I agree there are sometimes it is a slightly creepy term ("We're going to a club to pick up some females" for example) there are plenty of times it's not, and you know for a fine fact that we're not talking about context here, the majority of people on the internet don't give a fuck about context. We've all had people, I'm sure, come to use trying to shame us into conforming to their standards for no good reason other than it makes them feel good to rule laywer.
TLDR. It's a fucking word. The most harm it can do is make someone seem creepy for using it outside it's normal context. This is not a good reason to consider it a 'bad word', or to shame and judge the people who use it, and it sure as fuck isn't a good enough reason to give the SJW Rule laywers another word they get to police.

Re: "Female"
(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 12:42 am (UTC)(link)Harmful? How? I won't argue disrespectful, because I can't. I've been told that swearing as much as I do is disrespectful, and my only retort has been along the lines of "Fuck you, you fucking thin-skinned asshole" (because I'm a classy chick).
Harmful, however, I will argue? Who is being harmed by my use of the word female? I personally grind my teeth when I'm referred to as a 'Lady' do I get to start accusing those people of harming me? I can provide an actual dentist bill giving a numerical value to the harm those people are doing me, so can I have that word decreed as harmful?

Re: "Female"
(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 12:59 am (UTC)(link)What about teenagers who don't like being called Kids, because they feel it's belittling them?
What about the people who feeling being called dumb is harmful?
What about the MRA shits who complain about... so very many things being harmful towards men? No fucker takes them seriously.
A person can and usually will feel a number of ways about many perfectly harmless things. At what point do we stop considering a person a stupid overreacter, and start taking them seriously? Or is this line decided by your measuring stick? If you, saku, personally feel harmed by something, is it then harmful?
Oh, and when we're talking about a collection of people, E.g, females, we ARE dehumanizing them. They are no-longer A human, but part of a group, this is true weather we say females, ladies, women, girls, or ponys. When taking about a collection that share a characteristic, we are talking about that group, and that characteristic. NOT humans.
Is it dehumanizing to call me a british person? Shouldn't you call me "a british woman who is thirty five and called Ashley?" Or call me by my full name always, instead of dehumanizing me into being part of a group?

Re: "Female"
(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 02:41 am (UTC)(link)Another example, in case that one is hard to understand. The term "lady" is harmful to you. People who use this term to refer to you are disrespecting your wish to be referred to as something else, and it causes you some form of harm. Does that make it more clear?
Re: "Female"
you're a sociopath!
Re: "Female"
(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 01:00 am (UTC)(link)Using the word female makes me a sociopath.
